GIG FRAGMENTS

Work fragmentation in the Gig Economy

Gig Fragments is a 3 year research project supported by the Australian Research Council and the University of Western Australia.

It is led by Dr Tom Barratt, an early career researcher who is using labour geography and industrial relations to better understand gig work in Australia. Its starting point is the lives and choices of the people who decide to perform gig work, and why, where and how they do this work.

The project is currently actively recruiting participants, so please if you are working as a gig worker, or know someone who is, please consider getting involved. Participation involves an initial interview, with the potential to follow up periodically, which considers the experience of working in the gig economy.

By participating, you’re not just contributing to research; but also helping policymakers get better insights on the best and worst parts of gig work, and what it is really like. Your experiences provide invaluable insights that can drive positive change in the world of work. If you have any queries about working in the gig economy in Australia, see the FairWork Ombudsman page; if you’re unsure about your classification or rights as a gig worker, see their clarifications here.

Your participation drives change.

If you are working within the gig economy, please consider participating in the study because your insight and experiences are invaluable, and will help to inform and shape the future of the gig economy.
